Feed Your Creative Spirit

Decisions

On a recent Sunday I was debating whether or not to go into downtown Boston or take a ride over to one of my favorite garden centers. Originally I was leaning towards the trip into Boston, but a last minute change of heart due to the cold outside temperatures had me heading to the garden center instead.

This time of the year always has me itching for warmer temperatures with a wish we could have a good old-fashioned early spring for once. You know, the type where the air warms up for good during the day, then returns to the colder air at night. All of this keeping us in check with a realization that winter is still parked outside our front door, and by the way, this is New England!

Another year of hoping the groundhog would advance the dial to a guaranteed spring and stop with the guaranteed snowstorms at this time of the year. I love spring and the newness and hope for a new year ahead. Yet, spring seems to have vanished these days, except for a teaser day or two spread thinly around us. With an increased frequency we go from the claws of winter right into summer without much of a transition period.

In spite of the weather, the drastic changes of temperatures from one day to the next, even from morning until night, there remains hope. During the month of March, not even the threat of a late winter Nor’easter can deter the feelings of the seasonal journey getting ready for a change.

Creative Thaw

There is no need to run from the creative elements scurrying about in our minds. Even without the slightest effort, thoughts of what lie ahead begin to awaken inside of us, a creative thaw of sorts. The Northern Brown Bear is not the only one who has slipped into hibernation over the winter months. Creatively speaking of course, it is time to feed your creative spirit.

I can always find plenty to forage on with a trip to the local garden center. Late winter at the center, is a buffet of beauty lining up for us in the coming months. Camera in hand and free from any of the colder winds of March, I am able to capture some of the essence of what nature chooses to share with all of us. Their start is my start for the coming year. I know without hesitation, taking the time to appreciate the beauty of this years early growth will nourish my soul and feed my own artistic journey for another year.
