Mindfulness

“Creative writing and mindful photography are so much more than a hobby!” This little blurb here is taken from my homepage and an opening for me to say a little more about “mindful” photography. The photograph above was taken at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The month was February, we were obviously still in the grasp of winter. What a breath of fresh air though on a cold winters day!

More, and more, I have tried to pay special attention to what is actually in my field of view at exactly the moment I take a photograph. I get the sophistication, and all of the technical gadgetry of cameras and light and everything else these days. However, I am getting better, and enjoying more, what I am doing by focusing on the stories being told to me through my lens. I am listening with my eyes, and I love it!

The crepe paper petals on this flower, the contrasting greens against the black background, the different stages of development on each bud, are a continuation of life in this beholders eyes. This photograph, at this particular moment, screams of a mindfulness available to all of us.

If our own lives are broken down into thirds, there is a wonderful story here of a magnificent beauty attached to each and everyone of us. In spite of what we sometimes feel surrounds us, leaving no room for more goodness, our best is always present, even in our darkest hours.
