Create Your Place
Maybe it’s tied to retirement, or perhaps it has more to do with the paths my mind tends to wander. Maybe it’s simply the realization that the places where I feel at peace are often under siege. My response to this invasion has been to shrink my world and carefully curate who and what I want to allow into my circle.
You know what? The world might be safe. It might even be on a path to healing itself. But I’m not sure I like who’s steering the wheel.
It feels like an agenda I never signed up for is being written for me. I want to drive my own bus. I want my place to be shaped by the people and the things that truly matter to me. I want to craft spaces where meaningful voices can still be heard, and choice remains an unshakable right.
“I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.”
Gandhi
Perhaps my message seems vague, but I prefer to think of it as abstract - a canvas open to your interpretation. In the places I create, self expression isn’t just a luxury; it’s a source of strength that sustains who I want to be. I alone govern the emotions that flourish within my chosen spaces. Gone are the distractions of voices that don’t belong in my shrinking world.
“If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally. If you want to take responsibility for your life, you must choose one of those three options, and you must choose now. Then accept the consequence. No excuses. No negativity. No psychic pollution. Keep your inner space clear.
Eckhart Tolle
The choice is clear for me: Keep creating a world where I can thrive. Be vigilant about who I allow in. Let the distractions inspire me to shape my space into something sacred - a sanctuary, a happy place.
Our choices define us. They either strengthen or weaken us. My place is where I feel comfortable, safe, and in control of my decisions. It’s not a choice everyone would make, and that’s okay. Our ability to craft paths that reflect who we are and what we value makes life remarkable.
“People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just becasue they’re not on your road doesn’t mean they’ve gotten lost.”
Dalai Lama
Whatever road you’re on, I hope it leads you to a place you’ve created - one that allows you to become the best version of yourself.
