Lining Up

To say this photograph is one of my personal favorites would be an understatement. This picture was taken in Peccioli, a commune of Pisa in the Tuscan region of Italy a few years ago. I remember it so well! It was an overcast day and we had just come through an alley to find this view speaking to me. Without a doubt, this was the day I left my picture taking hobby behind and emerged as a mindful photographer.

I went from being click crazy to deliberately paying attention to what was in my field of view. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of lines in this photograph, going in every direction imaginable, with even more that you can’t imagine, yet there they are.

Photographs are a part of history, they become our history, they become the steward for all of our memories. The more deliberate I can be with my camera, the more intentional I become with lining up my thoughts with what is going on right now.

There is another reward worth mentioning here. Being deliberate with my photography has created a crossover into every day life. My eyes and my mind are working in the same way as my lens and the shutter release. Moments are being committed to memory with the kind of deliberateness that works even when I don’t have my camera!
