Resting Minds
Do you have the ability not to take yourself so seriously? Can you relax at will? Or better, are you aware without being reminded, that you need to take some time to rest and relax? Can you be the water and go with the flow?
“Life isn’t as serious as the mind makes it out to be.”
Eckhart Tolle
“Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream.”
John Lennon
I am pretty good at resting and am working hard to improve my relaxation. Each day begins between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning. The afternoon always includes a quick nap. I’ve earned it. The reward for my early start each day is the quiet time only the early morning hours can deliver. It’s the perfect time for me to take purposeful steps to build the day I am heading into. I’m not perfect with it, but it delivers more than it takes away.
“Some of the secret joys of living are not found by rushing from point A to point B, but by inventing some imaginary letters along the way.”
Douglas Pagels
Some of our greatest anxiety is brought on by worrying about the things we can’t control instead of taking a few moments to think about the things we can.
“Our anxiety does not come from thinking about the future, but wanting to control it.”
Khalil Gibran
We don’t give ourselves enough credit for our accumulated wisdom over the years. Often, the reason is because we never put it into practice. We know better, but we fail to initiate the brief pause before acting hastily to what is happening around us.
“Your mind wanting more is the problem. Your understanding, awareness, and indifference are the solution.”
Maxine Lagace
Start your day by taking a few moments to build something you will enjoy. Make sure to include some time to rest your mind, and if it is sitting inside of a body willing to keep it company, even better!
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky is hardly a waste of time.”
John Lubbock
