Shadow Work

Without thinking I turn on the light to find my way around a dark room. If not, I am at least walking with my hands out in front of me to feel my way around. Until recently, I never thought to look inside myself. Now I allow the light to lead the way, looking to see a shadow of myself it can be so easy to ignore.

“Our shadows hold the essence of who we are. They hold our treasured gifts. By facing these aspects of ourselves, we become free to experience our glorious totality: the good and the bad, the dark and the light.”

Debbie Ford

Without some light, we can’t have shadows. Without our shadow self, there would be no need for our shadow work. I’m getting better at shining a light inside of myself. There is goodness in the dark and happiness; we feel it with a light that shines. The light allows me to see the shadows I don’t need, releasing them and allowing my true self to emerge.

“A lot of the shadow self is the home of poetry, story, prayer. My deepest understandings are often released from the part of me which I am least aware most of the time.”

Madeline L’Engle

Shadow work is an adventure in discovery. There is a lot I can learn about myself when I open up to the light. The shadow self can be nurtured or let go. But first, I must become intentional and honest about what I want my shadow to mean. Friend or foe?

“Accept yourself, your strengths, your weaknesses, your truths, and know what tools you have to fulfill your purpose.”

Steve Maraboli

Get on with it! Open yourself up, and let some light in. Find your shadow and decide who needs you and what you’re ready to let go of.

“The journey of self discovery is not always and easy path… Understanding the light that you are & also being able to see your shadow self… You will begin to understand both are crucial in experiencing this physical world.”
