The Paradox Of Self

The message often comes in the form of confusion and guilt. We have this inability to say no which comes with a long list of reasons that never makes our self care a priority. This would be too self-centered, selfish even, especially in a world that wants us to believe being friends with ourselves should never be at the top of our list. Sometimes it’s easier to think about the opposite of what you should do, and wonder what others would then think of you. If you were not to love yourself then what would it be? What would it be like if you hated yourself? How could you love others without first accepting who you are?

“It’s all about falling in love with yourself and sharing that love with someone who appreciates you, rather than looking for love to compensate for a self love deficit.”

Eartha Kitt

Learning to be best friends with yourself is hard. Loving yourself for who you are, accpeting all of your faults, learning from them and continuing to move forward is not the easy road. It’s necessary!

“My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find peace with exactly who and what I am. To take pride in my thoughts, my appearance, my talents, my flaws, and to stop this incessant worrying that I can’t be loved as I am.”

Anais Nin

Stop feeling guilty. Rebuild if you must and start on the inside, it is ok to be at the top of your own list. Be who you want to be and stop worrying about who and what everyone else wants you to be. Remember…

“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.”

Maya Angelou
