Think Less

Overthinking doesn’t get enough credit as a dominant force in our lives. We surrender much of our time to overthinking instead of just moving on. So what can we do to reclaim one of the most significant wastes of our time? If you could look in the mirror and see your peace of mind , would it be right there looking back at you? We live in a world that makes it hard to find peace of mind, but that doesn’t mean we have to work so hard to see it.

“Most of us never stop to consider our blessings: rather, we spend the day only thinking about our problems. But since you have to be alive to have problems, be grateful for the opportunity to have them.”

Bernie Siegel

I’m as guilty as the next guy. If overthinking paid dividends, I would have a pretty substantial bank account. I recently read an Instagram post that stated we have about eighty summers in our lives. That is the kind of perspective I don’t want to think about. I want to steal time from my thinking clock and add it to my doing things clock. Not thinking so much is something I can do. Does it take practice? Of course, it does; anything in life that is good for us takes practice.

“Simple can be harder than complex: you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”

Steve Jobs

Worrying, fear, comparison, and not being good enough drives us to think about things we make up in our heads. Overthinking shortens the time spent on our “doing things clock!” It doesn’t have to be this way.

“Overthinking is a dream killer. Sometimes you can drown in your own thoughts.”

Steve Maraboli

Sometimes we think too much about the things that are good for us but never enough about the things that are not. It doesn’t take a village to consider what brings us peace of mind. We don’t always need to be doing something other than enjoying the moment and the company we are presently in.

“The world is full of people who will help you manufacture tornados in order to blow out a match.”

Shaun Hick

I love the summer. I love all seasons; each has unique gifts for us to enjoy. We don’t have to think about them; we are built to enjoy them. Besides, when I seek the beauty in all seasons, my time is multiplied by four! It was never about the summer; it was always about all of the moments in each of the days of our lives.

“Put your thoughts to sleep. Do not let them cast a shadow over the moon of your heart. Let go of thinking.”

Rumi
