What I See
Have you ever watched a movie for the second or even the third time and seen things you had never seen in the previous viewing? This happens a lot. I have tried to become more intentional by increasing my awareness about what is happening around me. I see and no longer just look.
“As you awaken to your divine nature, you’ll begin to appreciate beauty in everything you see, touch, and experience.”
Wayne Dyer
There was a time when I clicked away with my camera. The more pictures the better. Now, I am thinking about words and sketching or painting before I hit the shutter release button. This is the mindful part of my photography. Everything in my line of sight is a frame waiting to be connected to something creative.
“The most pleasurable thing in the world, for me, is to see something and then translate how I see it.”
Ellsworth Kelly
So, how do you go from clicking, clicking, clicking to looking at things, knowing they have the potential to be part of something greater? I looked within, this taught me to see beyond just looking. I continue to work on my awareness; I am more intentional and see more by looking less.
“Seeing within changes one’s outer vision.”
Joseph Chilton Pearce
I’m not perfect, but that has never been the goal; it never will be. Improving my awareness intentionally and trying harder to be mindful of my surroundings allowed me to see things I was missing. This process has taught me to see the stories in what were only objects before.
“Around us, life bursts with miracles; a glass of water, a ray of sunshine, a leaf, a caterpillar, a flower, laughter, raindrops. If you live in awareness, it is easy to see miracles. Eyes that see thousands of colors, shapes, and forms; ears that hear a bee flying or a thunderclap; a heart that beats in rhythm with the heartbeat of all beings. When we are tired and feel discouraged by life’s daily struggles, we may not notice these miracles, but they are always there.”
Nhat Hahn
Don’t hesitate! What are you looking at? What do you see?
“Open your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever.”
Anthony Doerr
