Alone Time
Alone time is not to be confused with the sadness associated with loneliness. Spending time alone is an opportunity to reflect and replenish-a time to fill your tank and head back out into the world ready to spread all of the sound energy you took the time to find inside of yourself. We all need to recharge and begin fresh again.
“Shakespeare, Leonardo da Vinci, Benjamin Franklin, and Abraham Lincoln never saw a movie, heard a radio, or looked at a television. They had “Loneliness” and knew what to do with it. They were not afraid of being lonely because they knew the creative mood in them would work.”
Carl Sandburg
Alone time is that space in our lives when we can choose to find out what lives inside of us. It is a time to unpack all of the good stuff waiting to help us become our best selves. Some of the wisest moments in our lives were planted during times of solitude.
“The true way of knowing yourself includes neither self-praise nor self-blame, but only a wise silence.”
Vernon Howard
“When I am completely by myself, entirely alone or during the night when I cannot sleep, it is on such occasions that my ideas flow best and most abundantly.”
Mozart
What I find notable is most of the names mentioned in the last few quotes are not folks living across the street from me. They are some of the greatest minds in human history. Yet, alone time gave them the same opportunity it provides us - the chance to learn more about becoming our best selves.
Often, we get caught up in the information overload that the world plants at our feet. We believe this is the fuel we all need to keep moving forward. We no longer take the time to think for ourselves. Instead, we wait for it to be spoon-fed, believing this is who we are. Fear of missing out or not knowing everything about all things.
“Our society is much more interested in information than wonder, in noise rather than silence. And I feel that we need a lot more wonder and a lot more silence in our lives.”
Fred Rogers
Once you can silence the distractions of the world around you, you will feel measurable peace inside of yourself. Alone time gives you the chance to uncover your greatest strength. Understanding yourself presents you with your true north. Alone time becomes your compass to find your way in the world.
“Alone Time is when I distance myself from the voices of the world so I can hear my own.”
Oprah Winfrey
