Be Intentional

Being intentional often means adapting to habits we are not accustomed to, such as moving to a place outside of our comfort zone. To capture the timing of the sun for this photograph, I knew I would have to get up in the early morning hours and drive quite a distance to capture the right light on this walkway. I also increased my chances of no foot traffic while I was shooting. Choosing to be happy can bring us outside of our comfort zone as well. However, the rewards far outweigh the risks.

“When you discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.”

Jean Shinoda Bolen

If I am intentional, my awareness of the choices I make increases dramatically. Why would I not want to be intentional about the things in my life that I know will make me happy?

“Not to self: None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an afterthought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine. Jump in the ocean. Say the truth that you’re carrying aorund in your heart like hidden treasure. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. There’s no time for anything else.”

Nanea Hoffman

I’m trying hard to collect experiences these days. My list of stuff can fit in boxes instead of rooms. Today has a permanent place on my list of things. I think it has become my most prized possession. We get to watch it unfold together. Living with intention goes nicely with today.

“There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called Yesterday and the other is called Tomorrow. Today is the right day to Love, Believe, Do, and mostly Live.”

Dalai Lama XIV

Make it a goal to live with more intention. Choose wisely; often, the parts of us that need the most care are tucked away and easy to miss.

“No, we don’t need more sleep. It’s our souls that are tired, not our bodies. We need nature. We need magic. We need adventure. We need freedom. We need truth. We need stillness. We don’t need more sleep, we need to wake up and live.”
