Be the Tugboat
The tugboat is a powerful metaphor that can apply to many areas of our lives. No matter how great or perfect we think we are, there will always be times when we need guidance to steer us safely in the right direction. The tugboat epitomizes perseverance, energy, and know-how. There is no shame in reaching out when we find ourselves in unfamiliar waters. Arriving at a better place in life is often about more than what we can accomplish on our own.
“You just have to have the guidance to lead you in the right direction until you can do it yourself.”
Tina Yothers
Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness; rather, it is a strength that makes even the most daunting tasks more manageable. Asking for help transforms our thoughts into a guiding light. It relieves the burden of thinking we have to do it all alone. We are never truly alone - we only have to ask for help with the same determination that led us to rely on our stubbornness in the first place.
“Asking for other’s guidance helps you see what you may not be able to see. It’s always important to check the ego and ask for help.”
Kenneth H. Blanchard
Just as a tugboat can handle ships of all sizes, when needed, they will call other tugboats to share the workload. They don’t complain about the size of the ship - they simply do the work to get the job done. We, too, have the opportunity to do the work and bring calm to the turbulent waters in our lives. There are many tugboats in our lives - people who offer us wisdom, perseverance, and determination. However, the responsibility of reaching out and opening up falls on us.
“Here’s the truth: Asking for help is a wise act.”
Jessica Turner
You can still be the captain of your ship while seeking guidance from those familiar with the surroundings. Real strength comes not just from captaining your ship, but from allowing the light of others’ wisdom to help guide your journey.
