Dessert
Defined, dessert is described as a course that concludes a meal, a sweet treat if you will! Wikipedia shares that the word “dessert” originated from the French word “desservir” meaning, “to clear the table”. For most it is a brief, sweet indulgence bringing to an end the more formal or informal task of eating an entire meal.
I would look at dessert as a simple gastric pleasure which certainly can disrupt any other thoughts that may be surrounding you at that moment. With this thought, let me play with the word for a bit!
What would our days and our lives be like if we treated ourselves to an emotional dessert everyday? What would happen if we started our day with all of these wonderful thoughts, a brief pause before we rise just to reflect on all of the gratefulness that surrounds us. We could set the table for what is ahead instead of trying to clear the table at the end of the day.
If we are also in control of our emotional calories then we should be willing to indulge in simple emotional pleasure at the start of our day. So go ahead, pack on all the gratefulness pounds you can handle, and save the cheesecake for bedtime!
