Pick Your Spot

When I was a young boy, I had a couple of favorite spots with memories that are still with me today. One of them was a tall maple shade tree I would lie under in the summer, reading Superman comics when no other kids were around. The other was a neighbor’s swing set. I would swing alone, early on a weekend morning waiting for a friend to finish breakfast and come out to join me.

There is not a heck of a lot to reflect on when you’re that young., but stillness at any age will ignite an imagination capable of bringing us anywhere our minds want to travel. I still have favorite spots and they continue to push me to places that only stillness can appreciate.

I am more deliberate these days, seeking the kind of solitude that quiet brings. Instead of it being a byproduct of something or someone missing, I purposely look for it. I believe when we take the time to pick our spot, create those moments, we can actually see and hear more than we could ever imagine, and imagination is exactly what quiet wants us to experience!
