The Right Stuff

Back in June I shared a post about ‘Time As A Teacher.’ When I came to write today’s post, I thought about how much time has already passed this year. It’s like we’re playing hopscotch with the seasons. Every square advances us to the next major event without us getting to enjoy the time in between. From there, I went to my last post and thought, ‘if not now, then when?’ I guess I haven’t been a very good student trying to connect to the lessons time is trying to teach me.

I already have the right stuff to get going on some writing projects, but I have been playing kick the can with my time. Right, ‘if not now, then when,’ has been biting me lately, too!

“The time is now, the person is you.”

Nido R. Qubein

So what does it take? Why do we take so much time for granted? How do you make time work for you? I don’t want to become someone who has to move my stuff into the column of regrets. I already have all the right stuff to give my writing projects a life of their own.

“Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.”

Ernest Hemingway

The good news is that I am in the assembly phase of my life. I have collected and created long enough. If I don’t take the time to put it all together, then it just becomes clutter. If I keep holding onto it, I come up short. It didn’t arrive for me to store; my job has always been to add to it and then set it free again. This is how we fill the world with the right stuff.

“Now is my time. Everything I’ve done up to this point is just a warm up. This is where it all begins.”

Rick James

I wasn’t the best of students the first time around. I won’t make the same mistake, not when time has stepped into the role of teacher.

“Waste your money and you’re only out of money, but waste your time and you’ve lost a part of your life.”

Michael Loboeuf

I’ve been given the tools and lessons. It’s my responsibility to use them wisely - because time, more than anything, is a gift we can’t afford to waste.
